Quality TV shows hardly exist in german television. The only one that I really like is Tatort, a police procedural that is something of a cult. But that is a special case. In comparison, there are many great shows in american television, and one of them is Burn Notice.
It is filmed on location in Miami and also takes place there, which is rare in itself. So I get to see what Miami looks like - I don't want to go there and this is better than windowshopping. Florida is hot, humid, full of nasty bugs and critters and alligators. I _reallllly_ don't like anything resembling carnivorous reptiles. Maybe I was traumatized by watching those black and white Tarzan movies as a kid, who knows.
The plot is sort interesting even if its not that radically new. A spy wants to clear his name and in the meantime helps people out with his unique skillset. But the way theye go about doing that is hilarious because they explain how things work or why they do something a specific way etc. I have no idea how realistic it all is - probably not all that much (the techniques described like how to find and stakeout foreign spies in order to bribe them for information aka how to create an informant) but it makes perfect sense. It's like a version of McGyver for spies. I find it really amusing and entertaining to watch.
It is produced by ABC and if you want some good fun action comedy in high quality in a cool setting with a good conspiracy in the mix (Michael wants to clear his name and go back working for the good guys) - watch Burn Notice.
